I have adopted Robert Walsh's approach that reduces the odds to 1/125 for a $4 play. I can't leave well-enough alone, so I am applying my optimizations to Pick 3. The optimization is, simply, to play sets of numbers that win frequently over a period of time. I have written some Smalltalk code to generate numbers for tickets, given a base number and then I have tested the base numbers against history to see which base numbers win the most. My goal is to play the best stuff for the least money, so I am paying attention to the test results when I decide what to play.
